Service 3 ( January 2022, After the site visit, Reflection on site visit of service learning)

    I will separate my refection on the site visit of the service learning, and Dr. Chung Hung Hui separately.

    Regarding the service learning in this course, the topic that our group has chosen is the making process of shrimp paste and its preservation method. In this service visit learning, I have learnt about the application of biotechnology in the production of shrimp paste. Besides, the hygiene practises in the making process of shrimp paste are really important to ensure the quality of the shrimp paste. I'm not going to mention the rest of the details of the production of shrimp paste. Let's focus on my thoughts after this site visit. I really appreciate that I have this opportunity to have a site visit with my groupmates to Monanie Family Enterprise. This company is unique because it is a houseshop, and the owner makes the shrimp paste and other products in the room with the narrowest space in their house. The owner, Madam Razuna, is a heartwarming person, and she is a good talker. During the site visit, we had a great conservation experience. I clearly understand how COVID-19 affects her conservation business.It's really a hard time for Madam Razuna and other businessmen. So my groupmates and I decided to help Madam Rauzna by promoting their products through Facebook and Instagram. We have designed the poster, and the words "bukan sekadar belacan jak" are inserted into our poster to describe that this company not only sells shrimp pastes and sediments, but also sells kerepek udang, chilli shrimp sauces, dried shrimp, "sagu", smoked fish, and dried salted fish that are easily accessible to the customers. My groupmates are all cooperative and active in discussing and doing the service learning proposal. I have learnt teamwork in this service learning when working with my groupmates to complete our proposal nicely. Because I'm the person who found and contacted the owner of the company, I have improved my management skills too, since I haven't done it before. It was really a fresh experience for me. Lastly, I have improved my social skills through the conservation work with my groupmates and Madam Razuna in real life.

    Finally, I want to say thank you to Dr. Chung. He is a very nice and humorous person. I like how he treats the students like his own friends. He is also very patient when he is teaching the lecture. Even if it is his lunch time🍚🍔🍕, or his lecturer friend is calling him, he will also get off the phone, and continue his lecture just like normal until the lecture note is finished, or almost finished. In addition, he will also meet with some groups that need his help to give them advice on their service learning proposal. At the end, I want to apologise to Dr. Chung😭. This is because I often ask him questions and I didn't know if he thinks that I'm annoying to him or not.

Service Learning 2 ( December 2021, During the site visit)

     On December 11, 2021 (Saturday), we started our site visit at Monanie Family Enterprise, Bintulu, Sarawak. On this day, we went there at 2 p.m. (follow the time in the interview request letter). After we reached there, the owner, which is Madam Razuna, asked us to introduce ourselves first. After the self-introduction session, Madam Razuna started to briefly introduce the background of the company. As Madam Razuna said, Monanie Family Enterprise was established in 2002, when the operation was limited to making and selling the traditional breakfast at that time. After that, she realised that there were so many competitors around, so she changed to selling fisheries products. Later, she successfully exported her products to Singapore, and her products were really famous there.      After that, we started to ask her questions.
